Surabaya Mayor spots two people making out in park through her office CCTV feed, has them arrested

Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini (better known as Bu Risma) is beloved by most of the East Java capital city’s citizens, in part due to her efforts to eradicate vice from the city (one of her early acts was to shut down Dolly, the city’s — and supposedly all of Southeast Asia’s — biggest red-light district). A new array of CCTV cameras she recently had installed in her office gives her even more power to monitor the morality of her citizens.

Earlier this year, Bu Risma had an array of monitors showing 20 CCTV camera feeds from around Surabaya in her office, ostensibly to monitor traffic and flood conditions throughout the city.

However, Bu Risma is apparently also using the monitors for other things. On Tuesday, a young man and woman were arrested by the Surabaya Civil Service Police (Satpol PP) for making out at the city’s Taman Bungkul park after the mayor caught the two kissing on a park bench on Sunday night.

“We arrested them after Bu Risma caught them through a surveillance camera in her office. She saw a pair of teenagers who were sitting together making out and moving towards doing more in Taman Bungkul. We were immediately asked to investigate them,” Surabaya Satpol PP Commander Djoko Susilo said on Tuesday as quoted by Suara.

Djoko, who along with Bu Risma monitored the situation from surveillance cameras, said his officers immediately took the two young people to police headquarters for questioning.

Police told the media that the couple, a 27-year-old woman identified by her initials NS and FS, a 21-year-old man, were arrested for PDA-ing (pacaran in Indonesian) in the park and they presented a photo of NS sitting in FS’s lap as proof of their criminal immorality.

So if you’re in Surabaya, you better be careful about who you kiss and where, because you never know when Bu Risma might be watching you.
