The Supreme Court handed down life sentences to Imam Al Hafitd and Assyifa Ramadhani, a teenage couple convicted of murdering Ade Sara Angelina Suroto.

Imam and Assyifa, both 19, were each sentenced to 20 years in prison on December 9, 2014. But the case prosecutors lodged an appeal to increase their punishments, and the Supreme Court granted the appeal and sentenced the two to life imprisonment on July 9, 2015.

The couple was convicted of carrying out a premeditated murder on Ade Sara, motivated by jealousy as the victim had once dated Imam.

On March 3, 2014, Assyifa asked to meet up with Ade Sara near Gondangdia train station in Central Jakarta. The meeting turned out to be a ruse to get Ade Sara into a car with Imam and Assyifa, who went on to torture the poor victim with an electric taser and choke her by stuffing paper into her mouth.

After Ade Sara passed away, the murderous couple disposed of her body on the side of the Bintara toll road, where she was discovered soon after by authorities.
