Recently, President Joko Widodo announced that June 1 would officially become a pubic holiday designed as “Birth of Pancasila Day”. This led to speculation (probably started by people hoping for a midweek break) that tomorrow would be a public holiday – despite the logistical and economic complications that would result from the government deciding to declare a one-day break on such short notice.
Well, the State Palace today confirmed that there definitely won’t be a public holiday for the first ever Birth of Pancasila Day tomorrow.
“It’s confirmed that tomorrow won’t be a day off. Information that says there was a presidential decree determining tomorrow is a public holiday is false,” said State Palace Spokesman Johan Budi SP, as quoted by Kompas.
“Even if June 1 is going to be a holiday, it’s only going to be effective starting next year.”
We just checked our calendar and June 1, 2017 falls on a Thursday, so there’s definitely a good opportunity to have an extra long weekend that week if you plan your leave days right.
In the meantime, you can check out our 2016 Coconuts Holiday Calendar for the remaining public holidays this year.
