South Korean man loses car after handing keys to unofficial parking attendant

There are many ways to lose a car in Jakarta, but one South Korean man recently found one of the silliest ways to do that – by handing his keys over to one of the city’s many unofficial street parking attendants.

Myeongil Jeong, 47, drove his car to a party at his friend’s house in Panglima Polim, Kebayoran Baru on Tuesday evening.

Once there, parking spaces were very limited. Not bothering to park the car himself, he gave his key to a parking attendant so he could park the car on the side of the street.

Myeongil then went into his friend’s house. But he soon grew suspicious when the parking attendant didn’t return with the car key.

“At the time, I told the culprit to park my car. But he never came back,” Myeongil said, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

Myeongil and his friends went outside to find the parking attendant. Unsurprisingly, neither the attendant nor the car were anywhere to be found.

Myeongil reported the incident to the South Jakarta Metro Police yesterday. The police are currently investigating the case.
