With all the K-pop and K-drama craze that has swept Indonesia, South Korea is undoubtedly on the list of countries to visit for many Indonesians lately. Well, until the end of the year, a visit to South Korea is slightly cheaper than before.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Indonesia has temporarily waived visa fees for Indonesian passports until Dec. 31, 2019, in conjunction with the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in Busan on November 25-26. The event will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between the region and the country.
During this period, the waiver program is only applicable for C-3 short-term single entry visit visa to South Korea. The visa allows visitors to stay for 30 to 90 days, and it’s valid for three months after the issuance date. Applicants are not required to pay the IDR568,000 (US$40) fee, but they still need to pay IDR196,000 (US$14) in administration fee.
The visa application must be submitted at the Korea Visa Application Center on the fifth floor of Lotte Shopping Avenue in Kuningan, South Jakarta. More information regarding the Korean visa are available on the Korean Embassy’s official website.
South Korea is one of the top destinations for Indonesians, with the country’s popularity spiking along with the Hallyu Wave (referring to the global popularity of South Korean cultural exports) in the last decade. According to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Indonesia, the number of visas issued since has increased by 15% annually. In 2018, the embassy issued more than 157,000 visas.
