Under most circumstances, 54-year-old Indonesian Army soldier Sudiyanto would have been commended for trying to bring a taxi driver who committed a hit-and-run in Depok to justice. But this time, he should’ve let the crime go unpunished, considering he was driving a motorcycle carrying his wife and one-year-old baby.
At around 11pm yesterday, Sudiyanto was driving home when he saw a taxi crash into another car and then just drive away. Sudiyanto then chased after the taxi, only for another taxi to accidentally ram his motorcycle.
Sudiyanto and his family fell from the motorcycle. Luckily, his wife, Yani, and their daughter, Zahra, survived the accident.
“All of a sudden we were hit by another taxi. But the taxi driver said it was an accident. When I came to, I looked for my husband and daughter,” Yani said, as quoted by Okezone today.
Sudiyanto was severely injured from the accident. The taxi driver who crashed into Sudiyanto took the victim to Bunda Margonda Hospital in Depok. Unfortunately, Sudiyanto succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Yani said her husband wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, the hit-and-run taxi is still at large and authorities have not been able to identify the driver.
