Soon you won’t need to rely solely on cars and buses to get to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from the city.
After some delays, airport management and service provider PT Angkasa Pura II has announced that construction on the long-awaited Soekarno-Hatta Airport train station will finally be completed by the end of March, with the aim of having it operational by July.
The train to the airport will start from Manggarai station, one of the busiest train hubs in Jakarta. The journey from Manggarai to Soekarno-Hatta is expected to take 45 minutes. Based on reports, the train will make stops at Sudirman Baru, Duri, and Batu Ceper before arriving at Soekarno-Hatta.
The airport train is estimated to be able to transport 35,000 passengers every day.
“Right now Soekarno-Hatta Airport serves around 150,000 passengers each day. We estimate that the airport train will decrease the volume of road vehicles going to and from the airport by 20-30%,” said PT Angkasa Pura II Director Muhammad Awaluddin in a press release picked up by Detik yesterday.
A new Skytrain, which will connect Soekarno-Hatta’s three terminals, is also going to be integrated with the new train station. The goal is for phase I of the Skytrain, connecting the train station to Terminal 1, to be completed in August.
