Soekarno-Hatta airport has officially decided that it’s actually located in Tangerang, not Jakarta

There are two kinds of people in Jakarta: those who think that the Soekarno-Hatta airport is located in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, and those who believe that it’s actually located in Tangerang.

Well, the debate has finally been put to bed as airport management company PT Angkasa Pura II has decided to make it clear that Tangerang is indeed the host city of the international airport.

“This is a show of respect, as Soekarno-Hatta is actually located in Tangerang, not Cengkareng, Jakarta, as was widely believed all this time,” said Budi Karya Sumadi, first director of PT Angkasa Pura II, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.

As a result, all signs at the airport will now read ‘Soekarno-Hatta, Tangerang’ instead of Cengkareng.

This comes as an important victory for Tangerang Mayor Arief Rachardiono Wismansyah who previously complained about the issue.

“It’s about time that the name Tangerang is used to describe the location of the Soekarno-Hatta airport, because geographically not even a little bit of the airport sits on Jakarta soil,” he said.
