Jakarta Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat
Jakarta Vice Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat believes it’s time men, instead of women, step up to have sterilization procedures done to them as part of the Family Planning (KB) program in Jakarta.
“Not just the ladies, but men can also partake in KB,” Djarot said at a KB event in East Jakarta this morning, as quoted by Merdeka.
Specifically, Djarot is urging Jakarta’s men to consider getting a vasectomy when the time is appropriate. He said men needn’t worry about the vasectomy as it is now considered a safe practice and one that is effective at controlling population growth in the city.
Djarot said the city plans to promote vasectomy to citizens who live in the city’s crowded slums.
It must be said that to some, the vasectomy is a daunting prospect. We’re still waiting on the Indonesian male birth control pill to hit store shelves, which would be a friendlier, knife-less alternative.
