A crafty criminal (or possibly criminals) managed to steal Rp 200 million from Venus Karaoke in Tangerang on Monday night.
The theft was discovered by an employee of the karaoke joint, located in Tangerang City Mall, on Monday morning when they saw that the venue’s safe, which had contained several days worth of revenue, was completely empty.
Tangerang Police Superintendent Sutarmo said the theft must have occurred after the karaoke place closed at 2am on Monday morning.
In addition to stealing the money, the perpetrator was smart enough to remove the tapes from the CCTV recorder, meaning police have no footage of the smooth criminal in action.
Sutarmo said there was no evidence that the safe had been damaged or broken into forcefully. This would seem to suggest the safe was unlocked or the perpetrator knew how to unlock it, possibly indicating it was an inside job.
Police are still investigating the case, but if they can’t find any new evidence then the thief might be singing all the way to the bank.
