Trying to create a trend on social media can make people do bizarre and regrettable things.
Over the past couple of weeks, some Indonesian kids have been trying to make #ciumketekpacar (smelling boyfriend’s armpit) a thing on Instagram. We’ll just let these images do the talking (or smelling, in this case):
Fortunately, the movement hasn’t taken off into stratospheric planking-esque levels of virality, but we fear that it’s only a matter of time before we see impressionable tween girls catching on to the trend.
But maybe that won’t happen, as memes are already being made to counter the rise of this smelly fad.
“If this is a relationship goal, I’d rather be single.”
To be fair though, there is actually some scientific reasoning that justifies women smelling men’s armpits. Studies have shown that male pheromone secreted in armpit sweat can make men more sexually attractive to women. So these girls may just be following a silly trend, but it’s possible they could inadvertently be helping themselves find the ideal mate.
