A little girl in the Kuningan regency of Indonesia’s West Java province miraculously survived getting run over by a car, an incident which was caught in a viral CCTV footage.
In the video, which was taken at a gas station and dated June 27, a couple and their small daughter were seen driving their motorcycle next to a filling station. After they all got off the motorcycle, the parents seemingly failed to notice their daughter had wandered off and crouched down in the middle of a car lane. A BMW sedan then slowly came up from behind her, running over her with its right front wheel to the horror of everyone at the scene.

Local police confirmed the horrific incident.
“The victim’s identity is known. Her name is Amanda Fahrunisa, age 6,” said Kuningan Police Chief AKBP Yuldi Yusman on Sunday, as quoted by Detik.
According to Yuldi, Amanda’s parents took her to a hospital in the nearby city of Cirebon following the incident. Thankfully, she was discharged from the hospital soon after, indicating that her injuries weren’t as severe as many would have thought after watching the video.
“Earlier in the afternoon we saw that she was getting better. She suffered a fracture of her right leg and a bruise on her face as a result of the incident,” he said.
The police have questioned both Amanda’s parents and the driver of the BMW in relation to the incident, though they have not yet determined who is at fault nor have charges been filed.
There is quite a bit of debate online as to who is to blame for Amanda’s injury. According to Jakarta Defensive Driving Consulting (JDDC) founder Jusri Pulubuhu, both the parents and the BMW driver were at fault, with the former guilty of neglecting their child and the latter failing to be more mindful of the car’s surroundings and blind spot.
“But it must be known, the parents clearly contributed to this incident. Speaking from a legal perspective, the parents were guilty. They were driving the motorcycle with an additional passenger (Amanda), whereas the maximum number of allowed passenger is one. And when they stopped (at the gas station), they should’ve shared responsibilities, like having the mother keeping an eye on their daughter,” Jusri said, as quoted by Detik yesterday.
In Indonesia, it’s very common to see whole families with small children or even infants squeezed atop a moving motorcycle. Having more than one passenger on a motorcycle is a crime punishable with a measly Rp 250K ($19) fine.
