‘Sir, Where’s My Car?’: Indonesian man reports car theft to police, turns out he just forgot where he parked it

By Zoltan, only the most absent of minds can forget where they parked their car, and only the most panicked of individuals would go to the police before looking for it carefully themselves.

On Saturday, a 24-year-old man named Rangga drove to the popular Sejiwa Café on Jalan Progo in Bandung, West Java. According to the police, Rangga parked his car in front of another store on nearby Jalan Banda and then walked over to Sejiwa.

When he came out some time later, Rangga was shocked that his car wasn’t parked in front of Sejiwa. He then went to the police to report car theft.

“After checking the location, according to witnesses who were parking attendants, they never saw the complainant park his car there, but he was adamant that he had parked his car there,” said Bandung Wetan Police Chief Hidayatullah, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

During the police’s search on Monday, they received tips from locals that a car had been parked in front of a store on Jalan Banda for the past two days. When they went to check it out, the car’s license plate matched Rangga’s.

“Turned out the car owner parked it in the wrong place,” Hidayatullah.

Rangga’s father collected the car yesterday and it seems all is well. The police said there was no indication that Rangga was under the influence at the time, which we believe, because there are no reports of him blacking out and waking up with “DUDE” or “SWEET” tattooed on his back.
