Shopee customers will not be deprived of their couriers’ “pakeeet” yell, the e-commerce firm said, despite a massive fire at one of its logistics warehouses yesterday.

On Wednesday morning, a warehouse in Penjaringan, North Jakarta belonging to Shopee Express, the online giant’s shipping subsidiary, was engulfed in a blaze. The fire is believed to have originated from a nearby warehouse belonging to conglomerate PT Sinarmas.

Shopee Express said the fire did not disrupt deliveries for the day.

“The packages were shipped out early in the morning, and most of the goods stored were saved. Shipments from other warehouses also commenced normally,” Shopee Express said in a statement.

The logistics company has not specified how many packages, if any, perished in the fire. The blaze was eventually put out, and there were thankfully no reports of casualties.

Incidentally, a Shopee warehouse in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta also caught on fire on Sept. 6. Shopee also said then that the incident did not disrupt shipments, but financial losses from the blaze was estimated at around IDR1 billion (US$70,201).
