Serious real estate ad in Indonesia: “Buy this house, marry the owner”

When a listing for a house in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, appeared on a real estate website with the headline “RUMAH DIJUAL: Beli Rumah Bisa Ajak Pemiliknya Menikah” (HOUSE FOR SALE: Buy the house and you may marry the owner”) many people assumed it was a joke.

But the house’s current owner says the above ad, which is featured on property website rumahdijual.com, is completely serious.

Below the listing price of the house (Rp 999 million or about US$76,500), the ad reads: “Offer of the century!!! Buy the house and you may marry the owner (terms & conditions apply). Only for serious buyers and without negotiation.”

Soon after it was posted, the listing went viral across Indonesian social media, especially after the house’s current owner, Wina Lia, told several reporters that she was quite serious about the marriage part of the deal.

“Yes, it’s true, I really am looking for a partner,” Wina said today as quoted by MetroTV.

The 40-year-old widow and salon owner said she has had trouble finding a suitable man, having already tried to date a few times since her husband’s passing in 2000, but without success.

After mentioning her romantic troubles to her real estate agent, Wina says the agent suggested that she include the marriage offer in her ad.

Wina said she did not have any specific “terms & conditions” for her new husband/home owner, just that he be a responsible man.

“My goal is that this house be sold. But if I meet another partner, it is important that he be single, whether a bachelor or a widower, responsible and mature,” Wina told Kompas

She also said she hoped her potential mate would be a good father to her children and a religious man who would not object if she wore a headscarf.

Wina said she was surprised by all of the attention her ad has gotten but hoped it would also lead her to find somebody she could share her life with.

“Every night I pray and ask God to give me a good husband, and that the house be sold. I cannot bear this burden alone,” she said.

Aww. Well with all of the attention her ad is getting, we hope that Wina will be able to find a proper house hunting husband soon enough.
