The Depok Police arrested two mobile phone thieves, Arief (30) and Arifin (33), who had stolen hundreds of phones since 2012.
The two thieves were extremely adept at breaking into people’s homes unnoticed and stealing their mobile phones. They then sold the stolen phones at much lower prices than the retail value.
“If [they sold] one mobile phone for Rp 1 million and they sold hundreds, then they’ve made hundreds of millions of Rupiahs,” said Teguh Nugroho, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Depok Polisce, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
The police started following the thieves recently after several locals reported phones going missing. They were caught in their hideout in Pancoran Mas, Depok.
The thieves could now face up to 5 years in prison for theft.
