Senior citizens can ride the Transjakarta for free next year

In our experience, you rarely spot senior citizens riding the Transjakarta bus. But that may change next year.

After Transjakarta allowed Jakarta Smart Card-holding students to ride their bus for free (starting today), the provincial government owned bus operator is planning to let senior citizens ride for free starting next year.

“Next year Transjakarta is expanding. It will be operational for 24 hours and Kopaja and Kopami buses are expanding as well. Ladies and gentlemen who are over 60 years old will be able to ride the Transjakarta for free,” said Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.

Well, this is certainly good news for Jakarta’s senior citizens. Let’s hope this doesn’t lead to old-ish people making fake KTP (Indonesian ID cards) to be able to ride the Transjakarta for free.
