Selvi Ananda Putri finally spoke to the media to confirm her imminent marriage to President Joko Widodo’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming.

Selvi said she never imagined she’d marry the son of an Indonesian president.

“I’m proud. I never expected or imagined I’d marry the president’s son. Our relationship began before Pak Jokowi became president,” Selvi said at a press conference in Solo, her family and Jokowi’s family’s hometown, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

Selvi told the press that she had been in a relationship with Gibran for five years.

Selvi and Gibran met in 2009 when Selvi was a contestant at the Putri Solo pageant, a competition she eventually won that year.

“We met when Mas Gibran was the judge in the Putri Solo contest. And then we met again when I visited Singapore as Solo’s Tourism Ambassador, and at the time Mas Gibran went to school there,” Selvi said.

But Selvi didn’t reveal how the two officially became a couple.

“Let that be a secret,” she said with a smile.

Selvi and Gibran plan to get married this June, but the exact date has not yet been revealed.
