We think whoever wrote the questions for this exam watches too much sinetron.
A few days ago, a parent whose child attends second grade at a public school in the Pasar Rebo district of East Jakarta, complained that his child was given the most inappropriate practice exam questions ever.
He wasn’t exaggerating. These are a couple of the questions that he photographed above, translated:
13. Why did Bang Maman tell Ijah to get a divorce? Is it because:
a. Salim fell into poverty;
b. Salim is clingy;
c. Salim has a mistress.
24. Bang Kusen and his wife were killed by (fill in the blank).
Well, that’s just about as inappropriate as South Park character Mr Garrison explaining Game of Thrones to his students.
In any case, the Jakarta Education Agency said they have given a warning to the school after confirming that the questions did in fact appear in an exam prep paper. The school was blamed for not filtering out the inappropriate questions.
“The actual exam for primary school children is still being put together,” said Bowo Irianto, deputy head of the Jakarta Education Agency, as quoted by Merdeka yesterday.
Hopefully these kinds of questions won’t appear on the actual exam. Children’s intelligence shouldn’t be judged based on how well they can memorize events from some over-the-top age-inappropriate drama.
