Provided they’re lucky enough to find a vacant seat, KRL Commuterline passengers can now sit shoulder-to-shoulder with one another, as Jakarta’s main railway commute system has eased onboard restrictions amid the loosening of curbs in the capital.

In accordance with the Ministry of Transportation’s Circular No. 25/2022 updating restrictions on domestic rail-based transportation, starting today, the following new rules are in effect on KRL Commuterline trains:

  • A KRL Commuterline train can now be filled to 60 percent capacity, up from 45 percent previously
  • Seats are no longer crossed out, effectively erasing previous a social distancing mandate for seated passengers
  • Standing passengers are required to position themselves within the marked standing zone
  • Children aged five and below can now board the KRL Commuterline with parental supervision, erasing a previous prohibition

As per existing rules, all passengers are required to have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and check in to KRL Commuterline facilities using the health and mobility tracking app PeduliLindungi. Passengers are also required to mask up, and refrain from speaking with each other or on the phone for the duration of their trip.

The KRL Commuterline in Jakarta runs from 4am to 10pm daily.
