Robbers snatch Rp 70 million in cash from unsuspecting victim in East Jakarta

It’s never a great idea to carry loads of cash anywhere you go, and Jakarta is certainly no exception, as this poor victim found out.

Imam Maskur had just cashed in a check worth Rp 70 million at a BRI bank in Pondok Kelapa, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, when he learned his lesson.

“After taking the money, the victim planned to go to Mandiri Bank in Pondok Kelapa to deposit the money. But before he even reached the bank, the victim became a target of robbers on the road,” said Duren Sawit Police Chief Panji Santoso, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.

The robbers drove their motorcycle close to the 42-year-old man and snatched the bag containing the cash. Imam also received some light injuries to his arm and legs after the robbers pushed him off his motorcycle.

The police are still trying to locate the two robbers.

It sounds as if the robbers waited outside the bank to see if anyone would walk out carrying loads of cash. This incident is also similar to the robberies outside moneychangers in Central Jakarta last month. So always be sure to exercise extreme caution when carrying loads of cash on you, you never know who is watching.
