Unfortunately for one such batu akik collector in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang, his most prized possession were stolen yesterday afternoon.
A gang of three robbers broke into the unnamed batu akik collector’s house in broad daylight. At the time, only the collector’s wife was present. The robbers tied her up and stole Rp 10 million in cash, and, more crucially, a box of gemstones and diamonds.
The robbers made a smooth getaway and the police have yet to track them down.
“The investigation into the theft case at the batu akik collector’s house is still ongoing. At this time, the police are questioning witnesses,” said Pondok Aren Police Chief Bacthiar Alponso, as quoted by Vivanews yesterday.
Given the extreme interest in batu akik lately, the robbers have probably already sold the gemstones to unsuspecting buyers by now.
