Where are you going to celebrate New Year’s Eve? If you are like many, many other Jakartans, you’re probably going to say Puncak.
If you are planning to say goodbye to 2016 from Jakarta’s nearest hilly resort town, be aware that you have to get there well ahead of time, ie. not on the evening of New Year’s Eve. To avoid overcrowding in Puncak, Bogor Traffic Police are going to close access to Puncak for 12 hours, starting from 6 pm on December 31 until 6 am the next day.
“We will only allow one way traffic, that is from Puncak to Jakarta and its surroundings,” said AKP Silfia Kusuma, head of Bogor’s Traffic Police, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.
This, of course, shouldn’t be a problem for those who have booked cottages on Puncak for days before New Year’s Eve, as many Jakartans do every year.
Silfia also warned motorists that potential heavy rain could lead to slippery roads and landslides on roads leading up to and in Puncak, which tend to be full of inclines.
If you decide to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the capital, the Jakarta Provincial Government is closing the main thoroughfares of Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin and setting up entertainment stages in the area.
