Emmeril Khan Mumtadz, the eldest son of West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, is reportedly missing in Switzerland after he went swimming in the river Aare in Bern.

In a statement to the public today, Ridwan said Eril, as his son is affectionately called, went swimming in the river with his sister and their friends on the afternoon of May 26.

At one point, Ridwan said Eril was carried away by a sudden surge in river current. Swiss authorities began a search for the 23-year-old, but, six hours later, efforts were suspended as day turned into night.

The search efforts reportedly continued this morning.

“We ask for your prayers that Eril would be found immediately and safely, [so that he] can return to our family in good health,” Ridwan said.

The governor, who was in the UK for an official visit at the time of the incident, immediately departed for Switzerland.

Eril is in Switzerland to pursue a postgraduate degree.
