Anindya Kusuma Putri’s bikini shot on her personal Instagram account that outraged many.
Puteri Indonesia 2015 Anindya Kusuma Putri is hopefully going to wow the world at Miss Universe 2015 with her magnificent national costume, but she also has to impress in the other categories, like the swimsuit competition, if she wants to have a shot at winning the beauty pageant.
Many Miss Universe candidates from Indonesia in the past had to wear less-revealing one-piece swimsuits in order to respect the country’s traditional and conservative religious values. Anindya, however, has already decided that she is going to wear a two-piece bikini at the pageant, despite knowing that she will be criticized by several conservative groups.
“I fully realize that Indonesia is a democratic country. I will respect all criticism and input. But I will not give up easily because my mission is to bring Indonesia’s name to the forefront of the international scene. The people must see it [wearing a two-piece bikini] from a positive standpoint,” Anindya told Metro TV.
Anindya has plenty of reason to expect criticism for wearing a bikini. Earlier this year, she was panned for posting a shot of herself wearing a bikini on her personal Instagram account.
Anindya won’t be the first Indonesian contestant to sport the two-piece bikini at Miss Universe. Last year’s contestant, Elvira Devinamira, boldly wore this revealing swimsuit, though it didn’t cause much of a controversy then:
However, in 2013, the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) rallied for the cancellation of the Miss World pageant in Bali, calling it a “whore contest”.
