The flooding around Bunderan HI in 2013
We’re currently in the thick of rainy season but the city’s flood prevention measures have prevented us from experiencing anything as bad as we’ve suffered in recent years – so far at least (the hardest rains may be yet to come).
But the government is already looking forward to new ways to make sure our future is as flood-free as possible.
The head of Water Management for Jakarta, Agus Priyono said that, in anticipation of future flooding in the capital, his agency was planning to build 10 water pump systems.
He said the new pumps would be a major part of the city’s flood mitigation program for 2015-2035.
“To solve flooding across the Capital, we have to deal with everything from upstream to downstream,” Agus said during a press conference at the Department of Public Works, in Jakarta yesterday, as quoted by Tempo http://www.tempo.co/read/news/2015/01/27/083637935/Antisipasi-Banjir-DKI-Bangun-10-Sistem-Pompa-Air
Agus explained that three of the water pump systems would be built in the west (Kamal, Grogol, Angke), four in Central Jakarta (Hailai-Marina, Kali Krukut and Kali Mampang), and four in the east (Sentiong Ancol, Sunter Kresek, and Cakung Drain)
