The planned construction of Jakarta’s MRT.
The construction of Jakarta’s MRT is nearing one of its most important phases: the drilling of tunnels for underground MRT stations.
The drilling was actually planned to start at the end of 2015, but PT MRT decided to speed up the process because the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has arrived in Jakarta ahead of schedule.
“We will soon go into the phase that we’ve been waiting for, which is the drilling for the underground stations. The first TBM will be able to be used in August [to drill] for the Bundaran Senayan underground station. It will be located under the Pemuda Senayan statue,” said PT MRT First Director Dono Boestami, as quoted by Vivanews yesterday.
For the first phase of the MRT construction, there are six underground stations planned along the MRT’s Lebak Bulus – Kota line: Bundaran Senayan, Istora, Benhil, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas, and Bundaran HI. The other seven stations will be elevated.
