One of the biggest stories on the Indonesian interwebs on this slow news day are reports from numerous netizens claiming some bottles of Aqua, the most popular bottled water brand in Indonesia, have faulty caps.
The fault seems to be specific to the caps on small 330ml Aqua bottles. Netizens say that some of the caps – which had never been opened before – appear to have a fine gap around the top which can easily be lifted open, without having to twist the cap or break the protective seal.
The people in the video above, the first on the topic to go viral, pointed out that the faulty bottle caps were not tampered with beforehand as they had all been taken out of a new box of water bottles. Soon, many more tweeted their own videos and photographic evidence of faulty bottle caps to Aqua’s official Twitter account, raising their concerns about the product’s hygiene.

This is not a new bottle cap design either. After receiving many complaints online, PT Danone Indonesia, the producer of Aqua water bottles, said they are going to conduct an investigation into the faulty bottle caps and have asked for customers to return any that they find in the meantime.
“In accordance to our commitment to uphold the quality of our products, customers who find the Aqua 330ml water bottle product with a below-standard cap can replace the product with a new one wherever they bought it from, without additional charges,” Danone Indonesia Communications Director Arif Mujahidin told Kompas today.
