President Joko Widodo is 100 days into his time in office and is currently facing one of his biggest political crises so far – the ongoing battle between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police spurred by the nomination of Budi Gunawan to National Police.
Faced with enormous pressure from both his political party patron, former president and PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Sukarnoputri (who is pushing for Budi) and his supporters who want Jokowi to stand up for the KPK, can anybody blame the president for wanting to take a few moments out of his day to relax, like most of us have, by playing a game on his mobile device?
It seems Jokowi’s game of choice is Clash of Clans for the iPad. This unsourced photo of him playing it has been floating around the Twitterverse recently.
But it’s not just this latest political emergency that has led Jokowi to the popular game. He’s apparently been playing it at least since last year.
While Jokowi’s preferred digital pastime may seem silly, consider that Clash of Clans is a strategy game in which the player must battle rival factions to achieve ultimate power. Maybe it’s not a hobby. Maybe he’s studying.
