Pramuka Chairman Adhyaksa Dault is considering squaring off against Ahok in 2017

While Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said he’d welcome any challenger in the 2017 gubernatorial race, it looks like he might be facing off against several opponents in his bid to lead the capital for a second term.

After the Gerindra political party said it was preparing wealthy businessman Sandiaga Uno to step up against Ahok, another popular public figure, Adhyaksa Dault, said he’d consider running in the 2017 gubernatorial race as well.

“Yes, sure, I’ll run if there are people who want me to be nominated for governor of Jakarta. God willing, I’ll consider it,” he said, as quoted by Metro TV yesterday.

Adhyaksa  is the current chairman of Pramuka (the Indonesia Scout Movement) and the former Minister of Youth and Sports. He said the idea of running for governor came after a small group of netizens started an unofficial campaign urging him to join the race.

“If I do end up running [for governor], it will of course be for the good of the people of Jakarta,” he said.

Do you think the man with the impressive mo’ has what it takes to replace Ahok?
