Policeman thrown into Ciliwung River found dead in Gambir

A drug raid in Matraman, East Jakarta yesterday turned violent when a mob comprised of locals attacked five police officers, stabbing two of them and throwing one, Brigadier Taufik Hidayat, into the Ciliwung River.

Taufik’s fate wasn’t known until today. Sadly, he was found dead in Gambir, Central Jakarta.

“When found, he was already dead. We are in the process of evacuating the body,” said Jakarta Metro Police Spokesman Grand Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal, as quoted by Vivanews today.

Iqbal added that Taufik’s body was found floating in the Gambir flood canal at around 2pm today.

After the attack on the police officers yesterday, more officers arrived at the scene to hunt down the assailants. So far, they have managed to secure one person suspected of attacking the police and a woman who was caught carrying two packets of crystal meth.
