Despite numerous warnings given by the police and government officials that religious organizations doing Ramadan raids against venues would not be tolerated, the infamous Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) took part in a raid against a cafe said to be selling alcohol illegally in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, this weekend.
The reason their actions were apparently tolerated is because they did the raid side-by-side with the police.
“We secured 40 bottles of alcohol from a cafe around Kalimalang, Duren Sawit because they did not have permission to do alcohol sales,” said Duren Sawit Police Chief Johanes Kindangen told Vivanews on Monday.
Johanes said all 40 bottles of alcohol still had their excise stamps. He said public reports from organizations such as FPI were essential to the confiscation of alcohol and maintaining maintain order during Ramadan.
“When seized, the cafe owner was not in the venue. Going forward, we will find out who the owner is. We can get the report from FPI,” he added.
The fact that the police would work together with a bunch of thugs like FPI, let alone allow them to go on a witchhunt for alcohol sellers, is just further proof of how utterly irresponsible law enforcement officials in Indonesia can be.
