It’s not exactly a full-on curfew, but the police have deemed the recent influx of motorcycle robberies in Jakarta and its surrounding cities to be bad enough that they are urging citizens to stay off the streets after 10pm from now on.
“If you don’t have to travel alone, then don’t. If it’s not necessary to be outside after 10pm, then don’t,” said Jakarta Police Spokesman Martinus Sitompul, as quoted by Vivanews today.
Martinus said motorcycle robberies are most common in Jakarta’s satellite cities such as Bekasi and Tangerang.
“Areas that are prone to motorcycle robberies are those that are quiet, poorly lit, and difficult for vehicles to maneuver,” he said.
Compared to 2013 and 2014, motorcycle robbery cases have actually decreased this year. However, they are becoming more and more violent.
The latest incident of motorcycle robbery ended with the horrific burning alive of a robber by an angry mob in Pondok Aren, South Tangerang yesterday.
