Police Public Relations Head Anton Charliyan said that the explosions heard on Jl MH Thamrin near Sarinah just before 11am were the results of grenades, not bombs.
“It is true there were three explosions, but not from bombs but from grenades, then there was gunfire,” Anton told reporters at the site as quoted by Detik.
Anton also said that four victims had died as a result of this mornings chaos. “Three victims from the police (one dead, two shot), and three civilians. One person has been shot. We can not identify who, whether a perpetrator or a civilian,” Anton said.
Police are still hunting the perpetrators in the Djakarta Theater building next to Sarinah. The perpetrators have not been identified yet.
