The capital’s trash problem is so ridiculously bad in some areas that it can literally kill people.
Yesterday afternoon, a 2-meter wall, which separated the railway from Jalan Manggarai Selatan in Tebet, suddenly collapsed, killing 17-year-old pedestrian Dela Aurelia and injuring two others.
The police believe that the wall collapsed because it could no longer withstand the weight of a pile of trash that was building up on the railway side of the wall.“There are many huge piles of trash in the area,” said Tebet Police Chief Commissioner Nurdin A. Rahman, as quoted by Tempo.
The two other victims, 17-year-old Yola Agustiani and 30-year-old Rahmawati, are being treated at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for various injuries, including concussions and broken bones.
