Police still investigating small bomb explosion at ITC Depok yesterday

A small bomb exploded yesterday evening at the ITC Depok shopping center. The explosion did not lead to any injuries or serious damage.

The bomb was contained inside a cardboard box located in a men’s bathroom on the second floor, near the children’s play area. Although a janitor noticed the suspicious package at around 4pm, he did not report it as he assumed it belonged to a shopper.

The bomb went off at around 5:30 pm, causing a panic among the shoppers and mall staff.

“I was very shocked. The sound of the explosion was very loud,” said Djoko, who was visiting ITC Depok at the time, as quoted by Antara

A bomb squad from Kelapa Gading was sent to investigate. They found that the bomb, which contained several batteries, black and red wires, and a can of paint, caused very little material damage.

The police conducted a thorough sweep of the mall last night using dogs and taking fingerprints. No suspects have been named and no possible motives have been given, but police say they will continue to investigate the matter.

However, given how little damage the bomb caused, the police said that ITC Depok would open for business as usual for today.
