Police Sr. Cmdr Krishna Murti poses for friendly photo with man accused of mutilating pregnant woman

Senior Commander Krishna Murti, the director of the General Criminal Investigations Unit at the Jakarta Metro Police, has become something of a celebrity, especially since the terrorist attack in Thamrin last January. He often appears on the Indonesian news as the face of the Jakarta Police and he has a huge following on social media.

We already wrote about Krishna using his social media accounts to publicly shame and make crude jokes about a transgender woman on social media yesterday, but early this morning he posted yet another photo to Instagram that shocked and disturbed us.

It’s a photo of himself alongside the man accused of one of the most horrific crimes to happen in Jakarta in recent memory. (Update 22/4: The photo was deleted from his Instagram account but here’s a screenshot).

“He said he often sees me on TV, luckily today he can take a photo with pak KM (Krishna Murti).. This guy is pretty psycho.”

The “psycho” in the photo with Krishna is a man named Kusmayadi (also known as Agus bin Dulgani), who was arrested for the murder and mutilation of a pregnant woman named Nur Atikah that took place on April 10 in Tangerang. Her body was found with the arms and legs chopped off. After being on the run for over a week, police tracked Kusmayadi down at a Padang restaurant in Surabaya yesterday afternoon

The fact that Krishna saw fit to not only take a friendly photo of himself with the man accused of this horrific crime, and then decided to post it to social media, should make anybody seriously question his professionalism and his sense of ethics as a law enforcement officer.

But then, this is hardly the first time the Indonesian police have been accused of taking an inappropriate photo. There was also the time when a police officer took a selfie with condemned  inmates Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran shortly before their executions last year.
