Police shoot dead suspected Lebak Bulus pedestrian bridge rapist

The Jakarta Metro Police today located the man suspected of robbing and raping a woman on a quiet Lebak Bulus pedestrian bridge on Saturday.

However, police officers shot and killed the suspect, identified as 29-year-old ITF, as he resisted arrest and was reportedly wielding a machete.

“The suspect died as officers were about to arrest him,” said Grand Police Commissioner Krishna Murti, director of the Public Crimes Investigation Directorate at the Jakarta Metro Police, as quoted by Vivanews

According to the police, the deceased suspect worked odd jobs, including scalping bus tickets around Lebak Bulus.

The police identified the suspect after questioning witnesses around Lebak Bulus over the past few days.

On Saturday, a 23-year-old woman, later identified to be a civil servant candidate, was raped on the pedestrian bridge that runs across Jalan TB Simatupang, connecting Carrefour Lebak Bulus to shops in Pondok Indah. Even though the incident occurred late in the afternoon, there was reportedly no one around to help the victim.
