Police shoot dead man suspected of stabbing policemen in Matraman drug raid

Last Monday, a vicious mob counterattack left two policemen with stab wounds and another dead after being thrown into the Ciliwung river after a failed drug raid in Jalan Slamet Riyadi, Matraman, East Jakarta.

Yesterday, the police struck back by raiding the area to search for suspects in the attack. At around 11pm, the police found one of the suspects, identified as Ade Friyoza Wijaya AKA Ade Badak, who was believed to have stabbed two police officers on Monday.

“The suspect carried sharp weapons and fought back against the police officers who were trying to arrest him,” said Nasriadi, head of the Crime Investigation Unit for the East Jakarta Police, as quoted by Tempo today.

Officers then fired three rounds at Ade, all of which pierced his chest, killing him instantly.

Ade is believed to be one of the main suspects and instigators of last Monday’s attack.

The police also arrested a man and two women during the raid yesterday, though it wasn’t clear if they had any role in the area’s recent criminal activities.
