Authorities have revealed what they believe to have been the motive behind the naked man who tried to enter the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta yesterday before he was forcibly detained by Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres), and his story is a harrowing one.

According to the police, the man, identified by his initials BS (32), wasn’t in a normal mental state when he was being interrogated, possibly because he was depressed after his girlfriend passed away.

“His girlfriend died three years ago,” said Gambir Police Chief Commissioner Ardiansyah, as quoted by Detik today.

“According to (BS), he was going to marry his girlfriend in front of the president. That was what he hallucinated.”

BS is still being held in custody by the Gambir Police while his mental state is being assessed. The police ruled out that he was under the influence of drugs.

BS’ brother Kennedy is keeping him company at the police department. According to him, BS’ troubles ran deeper than what the police revealed.

“As far as I know, he once failed to get married because (his girlfriend) was of a different religion. It looks like he can’t control his depression,” Kennedy said.

“He’s usually healthy. Maybe he’s depressed because his business is not doing well. Perhaps he can’t handle it after he’s been holding in (many emotions) lately. He has many responsibilities, such as his rent, his employees.”
