Police prevent the sale of “condom-shaped” toys for children in Bekasi

Candies that come with toys are awesome. Growing up, one of our favorite candies was the Kinder Surprise (still is, to be honest) mainly because of the surprisingly fun little toys that came inside the plastic egg.

But recently, parents in Bekasi were shocked to find that the “toy” that came with an obscure brand of candy, Kotak Kado, is a piece of rubber that totally looks like a condom.

While news and images of the toy only recently went viral on social media, it turns out that the Bekasi Police have been dealing with the matter for a while.

“We actually completed the investigation and prevented the product from spreading even further on December 30. Then, on January 22, this case blew up on social media and mass media,” said Bekasi Police Spokesperson Puji Astuti, as quoted by BeritaSatu yesterday.

Puji explained that the candy was sold to primary school children at one warung in South Bekasi. Concerned parents first reported the candy to the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), who then forwarded the case to the police.

The warung owner told the police he didn’t know what came with the candy and that it was given to him to sell by a one-time supplier who remains unidentified.

The police confirmed that they didn’t find the candy being sold anywhere else.

The candy was not registered to the Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM). It came embedded with toy gifts such as a mini toy parachute and the infamous condom-shaped rubber toy, which the police later determined to actually be a finger coat, often used to ease the counting of large wads of cash.
