Nine coffins were transported to the Cilacap Police Headquarters in Cilacap, Central Java on Sunday evening in the lead up to the looming death penalty for nine convicted drug traffickers.
Ten convicts are currently awaiting their executions at the Nusakambangan prison, Cilacap. One of them, Frenchman Serge Atlaoui, may be executed after the other nine as he currently has a lawsuit pending at the State Administrative Court (PTUN).
According to Metro TV, the coffins will be transported to Nusakambangan as soon as the execution date is set.
Indonesian authorities say the convicts’ execution by a firing squad could take place as early as Tuesday.
The ten convicts awaiting the death penalty are Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran (Australia); Raheem Agbaje Salami, Silvester Obiekwe Nwaolise, and Okwudili Oyatanze (Nigeria); Zainal Abidin (Indonesia); Serge Areski Atlaoui (France); Rodrigo Gularte (Brazil); Martin Anderson (Ghana); and Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso (Philippines).
