Police name suspect in murder of girl found dead in cardboard box

After almost a week of investigation, the police have finally named a suspect in the gruesome murder of Putri Nur Fauziah, who was found dead inside a cardboard box in Kalideres, West Jakarta last Friday.

The suspect is a man identified by the initial A, who the police previously questioned as a witness.

The police say they found two pieces of evidence that suggest A sexually abused and killed Putri.

“We interviewed 12 child witnesses, and they testified that [Putri] has been locked in a room at night [by A] on three occasions. Putri was kissed and groped inappropriately [by A],” said Krishna Murti, director of the Public Crimes Investigation Unit at the Jakarta Police, as quoted by Vivanews today.

The police are issuing A’s arrest warrant today. If convicted, he could face 5 to 15 years in prison for child molestation and even more for murder.

Witnesses also previously said they saw Putri get on a motorcycle with two strange men before she disappeared and was eventually found dead, but the police have so far only identified one suspect.
