Police in the city of Depok, West Java, are once again investigating a sexual assault allegation similar to a widely reported incident that took place the city earlier this year.

On Sunday morning, a college student, identified by her initials SN (21), said she was selling donuts and snacks in a narrow alleyway called Jalan Jengkol. She was alone in the alleyway until a man on a motorcycle drove through the alleyway and groped her chest before driving away.

But the culprit turned his motorcycle around and stopped near SN, sexually assaulting her again and flashing his genitals. SN said he also hit her in the head before she ran away.

“As I was running, he hit my head and said, ‘I’m going to kill you!’ I didn’t care what he said, I just screamed for help and ran away,” SN said, as quoted by Kompas.

SN says she hasn’t seen the attacker since. She didn’t immediately report the incident to the police and only did so on Tuesday.

The Depok Police say they actually began their investigation into the incident before a formal report from SN was filed as part of their crackdown on sexual assault in the city.

“I’m hearing of many cases of sexual assault in Depok. We have arrested one so far for that case with the CCTV footage. And now there’s a new culprit,” said Depok Police Deputy Chief Arif Budiman, as quoted by Kompas.

The case Arif was referring to occurred in January and it involved a woman in Depok who also had her breasts groped by a random motorcyclist when she was walking alone on a quiet alleyway. In an interview with Coconuts, the victim spoke about her difficulties getting the police to act on her case, which they only took seriously after she made the CCTV footage of the sexual assault go viral online. The motorcyclist was arrested and charged with indecency under the KUHP (Criminal Code), which is punishable by up to 2 years and 8 months’ imprisonment.
