Police yesterday arrested a 35-year-old man named Riyan Apriyanto who allegedly groped a woman’s breasts while she was walking alone in the city of Depok in September.

According to the police, the victim, a 38-year-old woman identified by her initials RS, was walking alone in a housing complex when Riyan, who was driving his motorcycle, grabbed her breasts as he drove near her. The suspect then drove away immediately.

Fortunately, the incident was captured by CCTV cameras in the neighborhood. RS then sought the help of security guards in the area, who recognized Riyan and brought him to be positively identified by RS before he was handed over to the police.

“His motive was that he had an urge and he was satisfied after groping the victim’s breasts. We’re looking into if he’s done this before and if he has any mental issues,” Depok Metro Police spokesman AKP Firdaus told Kompas yesterday.

Riyan was charged with committing an immoral act under the criminal code, which carries a possible sentence of up to nine months in prison.

Riyan is not the first man to be arrested for groping unsuspecting women’s breasts in Depok. In August of last year, a man was sentenced to one year in prison (even though prosecutors only demanded four months) after he was found guilty of groping a woman’s breasts and driving away on his motorcycle. Like Riyan, he too was arrested after he was identified in CCTV footage.

In an interview with Coconuts, his victim said that despite the arrest, she was dissatisfied with the police because they had only taken action after she decided to share the CCTV video of herself being assaulted, which quickly went viral online.
