More information has come to light regarding the controversial amateur video in which Transjakarta passengers defended a bus driver from an angry policeman after a traffic accident.

Irvan Satya, head of the Safety and Security Sub-Directorate at the Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate, said they have identified the policeman in the video, who was revealed only by his initial ‘M’.
“Brigadier M was on duty directing traffic around Semanggi by opening and closing road access,” Irvan said, as quoted by Tempo yesterday.
Irvan said that Brigadier M went into the Transjakarta bus in the video after a motorcyclist complained that he was almost hit by the bus.
Irvan denied that the policeman ticketed or fined the bus driver, as the near-accident wasn’t the bus driver’s fault. After all, the motorcyclist shouldn’t have been driving on the Busway lane, which is exclusive to Transjakarta buses.
In addition, Jakarta Police Spokesman Martinus Sitompul apologized to the public for what was perceived as an angry overreaction when the policeman shouted back at the irate passengers in the video.
“We apologize that there are still some officers who behave like that,” Martinus said.
