A French citizen, identified by police as 34-year-old Wilian Daniel Xapier Kohler, is currently recovering in a hospital after he was stabbed last night in the West Java capital of Bandung as police are trying to hunt down his mysterious assailant.
Police say that Wilian was riding his bicycle on Jalan Cisitu in Dago’s Coblong subdistrict at around 10pm Thursday night when he was attacked.
“The victim was stabbed with a sharp object and suffered a stab wound to his waist,” Bandung Police officer Yoris Maulana told Detik today via SMS.
Police said Wilian immediately fell down on the road and cried out to passerbys.
“The victim was lying on the sidewalk, his waist covered in blood, he shouted in pain and asked for help,” Yoris said.
Wilian was quickly spotted by two passing Go-Jek drivers and then another local resident brought him to Borromeus Hospital in Bandung. Wilian is currently recovering from the puncture wound to his waist, which police said was about 10cm deep but did not hit any internal organs. The latest report from the police said that his condition has improved but that he still needed to undergo more treatment.
Bandung Police Commissioner Hendro Pandowo said that a special investigation team had been formed to look into the case. Police said they were currently checking CCTV camera footage. Evidence suggests that the assailant was using a black Honda Blade motorcycle. Police have not yet suggested any specific motive behind the attack.
