Police find marijuana inside Trade Ministry office while looking for evidence of graft

It speaks volumes about the lack of professionalism of our government employees that police have to go looking for evidence of graft in their offices and end up finding recreational drugs in the process.

Yesterday, the Jakarta Police searched every office of the International Trade Directorate in the Trade Ministry’s office due to suspicions that government officials have been receiving bribes to hand out container shipment permits for Tanjung Priok seaport in North Jakarta.

In addition to acquiring evidence of bribery, the police also stumbled upon a joint hidden in a cigarette package belonging to B, an employee at the directorate.

“The evidence was confiscated by the Jakarta Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate,” said Krishna Murti, director of Jakarta Police’s Public Crimes Directorate, as quoted by BeritaSatu yesterday.

Now we can totally picture government officials in their offices leaning back in their chairs with their feet up on the table while passing around a joint, all the while planning how they can cheat the system and make more money for themselves. No wonder public service is so poor in Indonesia.
