Police evict batu akik traders selling in cars on the side of the road in Jatinegara

‘Batu akik’ gemstones on male rings.

The ‘batu akik’ gemstone fever is showing no signs of slowing down. So much so that batu akik sellers have been selling out of their cars and pick up trucks on the side of the road on Jalan Bekasi Barat in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.

Tens of batu akik sellers were evicted from the road today as their presence had been causing traffic congestion in the area.

“We focused on the eviction on batu akik sellers who used their cars or pick-up trucks. The eviction was carried out with the Transportation Agency because there were lots of vehicles parked illegally,” said Jatinegara District deputy head Manson Sinaga, as quoted by Kompas today.

20 officers will be deployed to the area to prevent the batu akik sellers from returning. The sellers’ identities have also been recorded and authorities have warned them about harsh punishments for repeat offenders.
