Police don’t know what to do when man reports monkey stole his mobile phone (Video)

Mobile phone theft is clearly a crime. But when it’s committed by an animal, is the animal a criminal?

That’s exactly the philosophical conundrum the Ciamis police force in West Java had to scratch their heads over recently.

Well, the answer is an obvious no. But that didn’t stop one man from reporting a monkey to the police after it nicked his mobile phone.

As reported by Radar TV in the video above, local man Nurdin Hidayat said he went to the police station to sort out a recent traffic accident. While he was talking on his phone, a monkey suddenly swooped in and snatched the gadget from his hands before it went about its monkey business.

“I want to know whose monkey it is and who is responsible,” Nurdin told a reporter in the video.

Nobody owned up to owning the monkey, and the police supposedly were at a loss as to what to do. Eventually, officers at the station managed to retrieve the phone, only to find that it was damaged beyond use.

Naughty monkey.
